Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. A quick reminder to begin with – our threshold for what constitutes a ‘wet’ playtime has recently changed, and so we are expecting children to go out in the rain. Please help your children by making sure they bring a raincoat to school with them, and an old pair of trainers that they can change into when they go onto a potentially slippery and muddy field. Thank you.
This week, your children have been up to the following:
- In literacy, we have started to write biographies about the famous writer, Roald Dahl. We will continue this on next week.
- In maths, some of the children have worked on position and direction, while others have been focusing on converting units.
- In geography, one class looked at renewable energy sources, and others learned about countries that suffer from food shortages.
- In PE, we have been honing our cricket skills and working on athletics, ahead of Sports Day in just a couple of weeks.
- In science, we learned about the six stages of the human life cycle, and in a special lesson on Wednesday, we talked about the changes that children experience during puberty.
Spellings
This week, we have continued on with homophone and near-homophone pairs (or pears?). They are: affect, effect, dessert, desert, draft, draught, precede, proceed, who’s and whose.
PE
PE will be on Monday and Friday this week, and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the (hopefully) clement conditions.
We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
