End of Term 5 update

Hello, and welcome to the final update of the penultimate term of Year 5!

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we wrote some play scripts based on the story, Oh Maya Gods!
  • In maths, we’ve either been finishing up on shape and looking at statistics, or we’ve been learning about negative numbers.
  • On Wednesday, the school celebrated an All Around The World Day! Each year group had a different country to learn about and Year 5 looked at Japan. We learned some of the language and about its culture, we tried some Japanese food (salmon sushi and wasabi peas were surprise hits!) and produced block printed based on Hokusai’s ‘Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji’. Keep an eye out on our socials for more details.
  • In computing, we programmed our Micro:bits to measure air temperature.
  • In DT, we made healthy muffins (thank you for the ingredients and muffin tins!)

Letter from the King!

You may or may not be aware that Mr Burrows’s class sent their formal letters based on The Boy At The Back Of The Class to His Majesty The King last term. On Thursday, we received a reply! Check our socials to see what His Majesty had to say.

Forest Camp

Forest Camp continues on for the couple of Fridays: 22nd May and 5th June.

On the day of your child’s Forest Camp session:

  • They may come to school in their Forest Camp clothes: any long-sleeved top and trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty!
  • They need to wear their school shoes or clean trainers in the morning as they will be in the classroom as normal.
  • They need to bring wellies and waterproofs (in a separate bag) to wear in the afternoon.

The groups are as follows:

22nd May 5TA: Noah D, Ryder J, Poppy N, Casper T, Samuel T, Gracie B, Nia B, Dino D, Theo G, Harlow M, Jack S, Ethan T, Harvey W-B, Toby R, Beau H

5th June 5TA: Robin B-M, Harvey B, Georgie E, Alfie F, Cairo H, Louie M, Vitya P, Mia B, William C, Quinn C, Elodie D, Tilly H, Freddie N, Sam M.

PE

PE will be on Monday and Friday this week (unless your child is at Forest Camp), and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the (hopefully) clement conditions.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Tuesday morning.
