Term 5 Week 5 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. Bit of a wild week weather wise, but we should mention how proud we were of how everyone did at the Chiltern Edge ‘Wow’ Day on Wednesday. They were respectful, they threw themselves into everything and behaved extremely well. They were a credit to the school and to you.

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have started looking at a new book, called Oh Maya Gods!, with a view to create a playscript based on it next week.
  • In maths, some children have been looking at shape, while others have been focusing on lines of symmetry, reflection and negative numbers.
  • In French, the children started preparing for the Italian fashion show – check your email for more details!
  • In science, we asked the question ‘Why can’t you un-boil an egg?’, thinking about reversible and irreversible change.
  • In history, we spent Friday morning making Maya masks!

Chiltern Edge and secondary schools

After our trip to Chiltern Edge on Wednesday, we spent some time talking about secondary schools. Your children might be a bit more curious about the options available to them – if there is anything we can do to help, please let us know.

Forest Camp

Forest Camp continues on for the couple of Fridays: 22nd May and 5th June.

On the day of your child’s Forest Camp session:

  • They may come to school in their Forest Camp clothes: any long-sleeved top and trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty!
  • They need to wear their school shoes or clean trainers in the morning as they will be in the classroom as normal.
  • They need to bring wellies and waterproofs (in a separate bag) to wear in the afternoon.

The groups are as follows:

22nd May 5TA: Noah D, Ryder J, Poppy N, Casper T, Samuel T, Gracie B, Nia B, Dino D, Theo G, Harlow M, Jack S, Ethan T, Harvey W-B, Toby R, Beau H

5th June 5TA: Robin B-M, Harvey B, Georgie E, Alfie F, Cairo H, Louie M, Vitya P, Mia B, William C, Quinn C, Elodie D, Tilly H, Freddie N, Sam M.

PE

PE will be on Monday and Friday this week (unless your child is at Forest Camp), and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the (hopefully) clement conditions.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Tuesday morning.
