Week Four in Year Five

We can safely say we have had another productive week here in Year Five.

Particular highlights this week included this morning’s Big Write. It was based on a short film called ‘French Roast’, about a man in a cafe who didn’t want to admit he hadn’t got the money for his drink.  We watched half the film and the children storyboarded the basic plot.  They then worked in groups to try to predict the ending. It was not quite what they had expected, but it provoked a great deal of discussion.  We often find that films are a great way to prompt debate and drive creativity.  Street Child has also kept everyone captivated each morning.

Maths this week has been about comparing fractions using fraction walls and other techniques.  Lots of the examples have been pizzas and cakes, so you could practise by supplying those over the weekend!  Thirds, halves, quarters, eighths – all good examples.

PSHE focused on relationships this afternoon, and there was also some finishing off of the cam toys.  They have worked out really well and were a very good use of your cardboard.

Many thanks for your generosity last week for Children in Need, and today with your gifts for the Christmas Fair.  Enjoy the day tomorrow, and have a great weekend.

Please note that Y5 have Forest Camp spread out (groups of 13) over four Mondays, starting with Mr Andrews’s class for the next two weeks.  Waterproofs and wellies please.

Kind regards

Y5 team
