Dear Parents,
What a dino-tastic week we have had! The children have loved learning all about dinosaurs; naming them, playing dino games on the computers, talking about them during our Oracy sessions, and pretending to be dinosaurs too! They really have thrown themselves in this week.
We started the week reading ‘Worrysaurus’ and talking about what makes us feel worried, and what we should do if we feel worried. The children came up with some great suggestions and ideas for how they could help the Worrysaurus feel better. We have also been learning some Makaton, so if you ask your children the sign for dinosaur, I’m sure they would love to show you. As well as this we have started to learn the Makaton alphabet. If you are interested here is the video we watched to help us learn.
In maths we have been focusing on the big questions ‘Which dinosaur has more?’ We have been focusing on using the language ‘more’ and ‘less’ to describe different amounts. The children have enjoyed feeding the hungry dinosaurs throughout the week.
In phonics we have been continuing to focus on blending – particularly oral blending, where the adult says the sounds e.g ‘c-a-t’ and the children have to see if they can blend it into the word cat.
On Friday we had a very exciting visitor – we were very lucky to welcome a parent into the classroom, who bought with them their pet tortoise! The children had so much fun feeding it, watching it walk around, and learning about how it hibernates for months! They were really surprised to see how fast it ran!
Next week is a very special week. We are going to be learning all about David Attenborough! Not only is he Mrs Conway’s hero, but on Friday it will be his 100th birthday. We have challenged the children to find a fact or two about David Attenborough to share with the class next week. It is also hedgehog awareness week, so as part of the week we will taking part in a hedgehog walk to see how far a hedgehog travels every night.
On Sunday 10th May it is our annual On Your Bike event! We would love to see as many of you there as possible. If you want to find out more information about On Your Bike including how to sign up, here is the link.
Have a fantastic weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!
