Dear Parents,
This week we have been very busy! We had a wonderful trip to the Earth Trust on Monday, where we were fortunate enough to see some calves which were only days old! The children enjoyed several activities, including nature treasure hunts, pretending to milk a cow, and creating some nature art. This inspired some fantastic writing about our trip which the children have completed this week.
In maths this week, we have been focusing on understanding shapes, tessellating shapes, and playing lots of shape games. We have all thoroughly enjoyed the weather and have been doing some maths outside too!
We have continued our small group phonics sessions, where the children have been cementing their blending skills! The children have enjoyed working with Fred Frog, to jump on the sounds to blend the words.
We have started to be able to observe spring changes in our garden. The daffodils are popping out, and our tulips are starting to come up, too! The children have enjoyed lots of time in the sandpit as well as working together to build some brilliant water runs using pipes.
On Friday, we attended a special assembly with Mrs Salmons, where she introduced OPAL to the children. This is our new play programme which we are looking to embed in the Summer Term. The children contributed to a class survey this week, where Mrs Salmons asked some specific questions about the types of things the children would like to play with during playtimes. On this week’s newsletter, Mrs Salmons has shared the parents’ survey – we would be grateful if you are able to take some time to complete this.
Speak Up!
During Oracy this week, the children enjoyed talking about what they might see on a farm – reflecting on their visit to the Earth Trust as well as using their own knowledge. The children were able to talk competently about their previous experiences on a farm – whether they had been to see animals, or visit a real farm. It was lovely to hear them sharing their stories with their friends.
Jumpers and cardigans
We have a number of jumpers and cardigans in Kites which are not named. There have also been several cardigans and jumpers which have gone missing. Whilst we always try our best to match the jumper with the child, it makes it much more difficult if it is not clearly named. Please could you make sure that school uniform, including PE kit and forest camp kit is all clearly named.
Key dates
24th and 26th March – Parents consultations – if you haven’t already, please make sure you book a parents consultation appointment for next week so that we are able to dicuss your child’s progress.
Have a lovely weekend
Miss Snowden and the Kites team.
