Dear Parents,
We hope you have had a wonderful week! This week, we have loved learning all about Scarecrows! We enjoyed reading the story of Tatty Bogle, and describing scarecrows we found pictures of. In drawing club, the children drew some amazing scarecrows with incredible detail. Maybe this is something they could try at home too! We have worked hard on a class project, making our very own scarecrow, which will be part of the Pre-School scarecrow trail, which starts on the 18th of October. We hope you might be able to wander by school during half term to see their marvellous creation, as well as all the little swimming scarecrows we have made too!
In phonics, we have learnt the sounds f, e, and l. The children are becoming more confident with their letter formation now, so you could try this at home too.
In maths, we have almost reached number 20! This week we learnt all the numbers up to 16! The children have enjoyed the Ten Town songs and shows which help them remember that teen numbers are ‘Tia Ten’ plus another number, for example, Tia Ten plus Tommy Two makes 12. Please see your child’s reading diary, where you will be able to find their Ten Town login to try some Ten Town practice at home.
We apologise that we were unable to change your children’s books today! It has been a busy day with apple pressing this morning and finishing our scarecrow this afternoon. We will change books on Monday and again on Friday next week. Instead, maybe you might like to visit the library to choose a book to borrow for the weekend.
Next week, we will be learning all about Hedgehogs! For show and tell, the children might like to bring in a photo of their pet, or their favourite animal. You can always send photos to the office to save printing them out if this is easier.
Your questions answered
Thank you to those who have completed the Kites parents’ survey that was shared earlier this week. There are a few questions that we have noted, which we will answer over the coming weeks. This week’s question: When will we have access to Evidence Me to see what our children have been learning?
You will be given access to Evidence Me on the 23rd and 24th of October. On Evidence Me, there are several observations of your children’s learning so far this year, and we will continue to upload more information as the year progresses. Just remember that now your child is in reception, Evidence Me will capture a few wow moments, and not everything every day. We hope you will enjoy sharing these photos with your children, too, so that they can talk to you about what they have been learning as well.
This term’s top tips!
Here is a top tip for term 1! There have recently been some cases of headlice across the school, and we wanted to make sure you were kept informed. Whilst lice are nothing more than a nuicence, it is important that children are checked on a weekly basis so that any head lice can be dealt with quickly before they are allowed to spread. Here is some simple advice you may wish to follow to keep headlice outbreaks to a minimum.
1. Check your child’s hair once a week
2. Use a lice comb with teeth close together to trap the lice. The comb is usually white in colour so the lice can easily be identified.
Reminders:
14th October – individual photos – please ensure your child comes into school wearing their Kites uniform for their school photos on Tuesday.
16th October– School Disco. £3 including a snack and a drink. This is always a fun event, but can be quite overwhelming for our little ones. If your child dislikes loud noises, crowds or can be quite anxious- please could you chaperone your child to the event or only bring them for a short time. We would like to make the event as positive as possible for all involved.
17th October – fundraising day! This week, you will notice that the children have a fundraising form in their bookbag. We are having a fundraising day in school next Friday where the children will have a chance to take part in a dance-a-thon or a football match. We hope that the children are able to get a little bit of sponsorship to take part to go towards our final fundrasising for our school pool.
24th October – Last day of term.
