Dear Kites Parents,
We have continued with Marvellous Me this week and focusing on feelings. We have looked more into the Colour Monster, exploring synonyms for the different feelings. We have all enjoyed hunting for the colour monsters around Kites Garden as well as collaging the colour monster to represent his different feelings.
In phonics, the children have now been introduced to m, a, s, t, d and i. Many are starting to recognise these sounds around them. In maths, we are continuing to introduce the characters from Ten Town and children should all now have the login details to access the activities at home, which are in their reading records.
The children have enjoyed activities such as: drawing/ painting things that make them happy, creating colour monster circles to represent his emotions, mark-making, bikes and trikes as well as making observations about the weather. Our favourite word to describe the weather at the moment is overcast.
Next week, we will continue with Marvellous Me and explore different emotions day by day, thinking about how we feel when we are sad, for example. We will be introducing the children to our school values, and next week, we will be focusing on Kindness. Some of the books we will read will include: Supertato, A Little Respectful Spot, and The Lion Inside. In Phonics we will continue with the Set 1 sounds and start with some blending activities, to support the children to start forming words with the sounds they know.
Here are some links to the set 1 sounds we have been focusing on this week:
In Maths we will continue with our number recognition, as well as activities associated with number value around the classroom.
As a school, we are very lucky to have seasonal fruit & vegetables donated to us for our snack time. Inevitably, this means that some children may not like the snack offered to them. If you know your child may not like specific fruit or vegetables, you may want to pop an apple or pack of raisins in their bag for those days (just in case!).
This week we have been completing the Reception Baseline Assessment, which provides us with a starting point for a progress measure which helps us to understand the progress children make in reception, but also the progress between reception and year 6. If you would like any more information about it please click here for some details about the baseline assessment from the Department for Education.
Reminders:
Harvest Festival 3rd October– DONATIONS WELCOME in the form of tinned and dried food stuffs for our celebration. All donations will be given to Sonning Common Food Bank – please check their website or the Food bank app for items most needed.
INSET day 10th October – a little reminder that we have an INSET day on the 10th of October, the children will not be in school on that day.
16th October– School Disco. £3 including a snack and a drink. This is always a fun event, but can be quite overwhelming for our little ones. If your child dislikes loud noises, crowds or can be quite anxious- please could you chaperone your child to the event or only bring them for a short time. We would like to make the event as positive as possible for all involved.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
The Kites Team
