Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 5 week 2

Dear parents,

We have had a very exciting and busy week continuing to explore the medieval ages. We celebrated St Georges Day on Tuesday and we read a story and acted it out in the KS1 assembly, we wrote menus for the banquet we had ideas from crackers and cheese for starters, chicken and potatoes for our main and jelly and ice cream for dessert! The children wrote invitations to people to come to our banquet, with some excellent writing and letter formation! We made outfits and crowns for the banquet and sat down as a class and discussed who we thought was bets for each role at the banquet, from the Friar to the Jester! The children voted for each other and gave lots of great ideas for why someone deserved to be a certain role. We discussed different musical instruments used in the medieval times and had a go at creating our own and playing them at the banquet. We crafted lots of dragons using a variety of materials and tools to do so, from creating giant dragon heads to making dragons using cardboard rolls.

On Thursday afternoon, we had our highly anticipated medieval banquet. The children dressed up as their characters and sat at a long banquet table and had a feast of crackers and cream cheese and our fruit kebabs which we made in cooking. Our fruit kebabs were all repeating patterns finished off with a yummy strawberry! The children then performed their medieval dance and we had entertainment from the dragons and jester. The children were brilliant and had a great time!

In Maths, we have been exploring pattern and 3D shapes. We have focused on creating repeating patterns through a variety of ways, such as paint and peg boards, we have also been learning our 3D shapes and thinking about 3D nets and what 2D shapes make them up.

Next week in Maths, we will be focusing on addition and subtraction up to 10 and 20.

Next week, is all about technology! We will be using our interests from TV to inspire creations of our own TV characters, writing descriptions of characters and telling stories about them, we will be creating Lego Minecraft models, thinking about the qualities of the different paw patrol characters and how we can show their positive qualities. We will also be exploring technology over time and how it has changed and how to stay safe using technology.

Reminders:

Junk Modelling: If you have any recyclable materials (boxes, bottles, cardboard rolls) we would be grateful for any your could bring in so we can use for junk modelling, thank you.

Challenge: If you could be any TV character who would you be and why? Can you write down the characters name and ideas as to why you want to be that character.

Have a lovely weekend and thank you for your continued support.

The Kites Team.
