Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 1 Week 1!

Dear Parents/ Carers,

What a week we have had! The children should all be very proud of themselves for showing bravery, resilience and perseverance this week… and so should YOU; Thank you for all your support in making our first week in Kites so positive.

The children are starting to get to know each other and we have been playing games to help to get to know names as well as singing songs and playing turn-taking games. We have had lots of activities out and taken a more continuous play approach this week; to get the children settled and familiar with their new setting. We have also been practising our lunch time routine as well as going through rules and expectations.

Next week, we will be starting to use the new timetable and moving on to focus teaching groups. Our topic will beĀ  transport/ vehicles as well as sharing and turn-taking as our key skills. We will be assessing children in writing and will start to formulate a picture of skills and understanding in different areas. The key vocabulary we will be using: vehicle, transport (modes of- car, bicycle etc), sharing, kindness, good choices, rules, responsibilities, values (kindness, respect, politeness, doing your best, truth).

This week’s challenge: Can your child tell or show us about a mode of transport they like to use or are interested in? It could be a hobby they have, how they travel to school or something they have been on recently to go on holiday. Your child can share this information during Show and Tell.

In case you want to practise at home, the songs we have been singing at school are: 3 Little speckled frogs, Grandma Grandma (sick in bed) rap, Head Shoulders (etc) as well as many more. Please do let us know your child’s favourite song by informing the class teacher or replying to our Google Classroom thread.

Reminders:

Forest camp starts on Wednesday, please ensure your child has the relevant kit.

PE will be on Thursday, please also ensure their kit is ready for being able to participate in activities.

We hope you have a lovely, restful weekend

The Kites Team
