Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 16.10.23

As we are approaching the end of our first term together in Year 2, we thought that it was time to reflect and to praise the children for the great start that they have made to life in a new year group. We have had a fun-filled week where we thoroughly enjoyed a workshop provided by Drama4all. We went on an adventure around the continents and even met a crocodile called Bruce! If your child enjoyed the workshop, look out for the leaflet in their bookbags that provides information about their clubs. On Friday, we celebrated ‘National Smile Day’ by thinking about what makes us happy and how we can spread this happiness to others and we have also finished off the cars that we had been making throughout the week.

Next week, we will be finishing off our topic of ‘The Great Fire of London’ as well as completing our work on ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ in Literacy. If your child has enjoyed this story, why not listen to it again by clicking on this link The Day The Crayons Quit | English | Children | Kids – YouTube

In Maths, we will continue to look at addition and subtraction to 20 as well as the relationship between numbers and, if we know these, how we can use them to help us to work out much trickier questions. For example, if we know that 2+4=6, we can work out 20+40 easily.  Our key vocabulary is- Numbers 1- 20, ones, tens, digit, addition, add, more, and, make, sum, total, altogether, subtract, equals, take away, bonds, relationship  related facts, compare, check, inverse. If your child is keen to work on this at home, here are some activities to try
