Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week Beginning 23rd February

Can you believe it? We are halfway through Year 2! We have had a lovely final week of Term 3, finishing off with puppet day. Here is what we are covering after half term:

In Maths, we will introduce multiplication, specifically looking at arrays. Follow this link on how to help your child at home: Multiplication at SCPS.

In Literacy, we will look at using apostrophes for contractions. Follow this link for a short but fun video: Apostrophes BBC bitesize.

In Geography, we begin our new topic ‘Kenya’, starting with locating it on a map.

In ICT, we continue our focus of staying safe online.

In Science, we start our new topic ‘Famous Scientists’. First up, we are learning about Sir David Attenborough.

In PE, we will be starting our dance unit, as well as our tennis unit.

Please wear PE kit on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please name school hoodies as these are easily misplaced and picked up by the wrong child.

Owls have Forest Camp on Tuesday. Please ensure all children return to school with their named, cleaned kit.

Year 2 have swimming on Wednesday. Please ensure they bring named kit, including towels.

On Monday, we have a visit from the author Gareth P Jones. Here is a link to his website: https://www.garethwrites.co.uk/

The optional half term challenge is to do some cooking or baking. You could go shopping and work out how much something costs, what money to use and if you get any change. Then, you could look at measuring in grams and millilitres when adding ingredients. Finally, you could talk about what temperature to set the oven to. This will help consolidate lots of maths content from Term 3. Take some pictures of your goodies and present in school for 3 team points!

See you next week!
