The children have settled back really well into routine after the half term holiday and the sun has finally come out!
We welcome Mme Bailey into our Year 2 team this term and we have lots of exciting activities planned to keep everyone busy and learning.
This week we have our “Castles Day “on Tuesday which should be great fun and a really enjoyable learning experience. Children will be spending the morning exploring different practical activities and role play to do with life in medieval times. The afternoon culminates with a banquet and entertainment! Thank you to all the parents who have offered to help. We still need a few more adults so please let us know if you can come along for the day or half a day. We would love all the children (and adults…!) to dress up in a simple way to bring things to life. Please let us know if you have any problems with that.
Thursday is World Book Day with reading inspired activities throughout the day. Children may bring in something they like to read and a pair of comfy slippers or shoes to change into. Mrs Skidmore and Mme Bailey’s class will still be doing forest camp on that afternoon.
Literacy this week will be continuing to be based on the book Matilda by Roald Dahl. We will be learning to write a character description of Miss Honey. Many of the children know the story or have seen the film/play so it all makes for some interesting discussions about the different personalities in the story.
We are working hard, practising 2, 5 and 10 times tables in maths and using this knowledge in multiplication and division problems.
Thank you for all your support with reading at home. This really is the time when your children are beginning to be much more confident, independent readers and your enthusiasm and encouragement is so valuable.
