Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 9th October

We have another exciting week ahead in Year 2. The children are looking forward to making their London houses in history so please send in a small cardboard box on Monday if you haven’t already done so! We don’t have quite enough yet…

This week in literacy we will be listening to and talking about a book called ” The Day the Crayons Quit,” by Drew Daywait. There is also a drama workshop to look forward to on Thursday. In maths children will be starting a block on addition, beginning by revising number bonds to 10 and 20, moving on to problem solving and reasoning. Some key vocabulary  will be “sum, total, altogether, bonds, part whole models and fact families”.

We are really pleased that most children are beginning to join up their writing now that they are more confident. It is often hard at first as their writing can become a little messy and large for a while until it settles down. Please encourage all their efforts to join up when writing at home eg birthday cards, stories, or shopping lists. Any writing done at home can be brought in to show and will be rewarded with team points!

Mrs Stone’s class will be swimming this week.
