Hello everyone,
We’ve reached the end of another term already!
It is being another productive week in Year 3. In English, we’ve been putting our persuasive skills to the test by writing letters inspired by Malala Yousafzai and her magic pencil. In maths, Miss Stone’s group have been focusing on division, while Miss Green’s group have been building their understanding of fractions.
In Music, we’ve started exploring a song about a dragon, which highlights kindness, respect, friendship, acceptance, and happiness. This ties in perfectly as we approach our second Headteacher’s Award of the year. We will be recapping our school values and giving the children the opportunity to vote for a peer who they feel has demonstrated these values the most since January.
Thank you for all the cardboard roll donations—our scrolls are almost complete! The children spent Friday afternoon painting their designs onto their modern versions of papyrus paper, as well as decorating their rolls. They now just need to assemble them into their finished Egyptian scrolls.
As always, the end of term brings a big tidy-up in Year 4 and a chance to refresh resources. We will be sending all pencil cases home to be restocked over the holidays. Please ensure your child has their own writing pencils, glue stick, and rubber, as these are essential for daily learning. If you’re unsure where to get these items, the Year 6 stationery shop will be open—children can purchase items from Mr Witcombe’s classroom during break or lunchtime.
In terms of homework, Friday is the final day to earn team points from the optional Stone Age tasks. Over the two-week break, the only required homework is reading. As Mr Burrows and the Reading Ambassadors have shared, this can take many forms. We will also provide optional Spelling Shed lists linked to next term’s topics, as well as Times Tables Rock Stars practice over the three-week period. Any completed ‘homework’ will earn team points.
Next term, we will continue our geography journey in Year 3 with our topic “All Around the World.” This will include learning about geographical features such as the poles, the equator, and different biomes. Optional homework will be shared in the first week back. In Literacy, we will be reading and studying Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which is one of my favourite units in Year 3. If your child already owns a copy, they are very welcome to bring it in to use in class. However, there is no need to purchase one, as we have plenty of copies available in school.
