Term 2 Week 2 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 3 update. Thank you to those of your who contributed to our Children In Need collection on Friday. Please check the school’s social media pages to see the school’s grand total!

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have been performing! The children were given playscripts of fairy tales on Monday and have spent the week practising their lines and setting up their stages. The performances we have had so far have been excellent, and the remaining groups will perform on Monday.
  • In maths, we continue to work on addition and subtraction.
  • In our termly topic of the UK, we learned about the bodies of water that surround the UK (test your children!) and some of the major rivers. Next week, we’ll be learning about counties.
  • In DT, we have started to practise different sewing stitches, ahead of making our own Christmas stockings.
  • In PSHE, we had some interesting discussions about bullying: what is bullying? What is not bullying? What do I do if I think I am being bullied?

Visit by PCSO Sue Haynes

We were lucky enough on Thursday morning to be visited by PCSO Sue Haynes. She spoke to each class separately about the importance of acceptance and friendship.

Spelling Shed homework

After discussions among the teaching staff and with parents, we have decided to bring down the weekly threshold of Spelling Shed games children have to do before the homework is considered ‘complete’. Children are now expected to complete 5 games in a week, rather than 10.

We ask that parents take the ‘little and often’ approach with doing homework. Try encouraging your child to do a game or two of TTRS and Spelling Shed every night or every other night. Research tells us that this approach gives the best chance of these facts being digested, rather than weekly Wednesday night blitzes.

PE and swimming

As well as PE for everyone on Monday, this week it is Miss Lunnon’s class’s turn to go swimming. Mr. Burrows’s class should come to school on Tuesday in PE kit.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
