Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 3 update. Our classrooms have received so many positive comments over the past few days about the number and quality of rainforest models the children have brought in! Of course, we know that none of them would exist without your support and help, so we really appreciate your help with bringing the subject to life.
This week, your children have been up to the following:
- In literacy, we finished our setting descriptions and are now learning about non-fiction reports. Next week, we’ll be hunting facts about animals that life in the rainforest.
- In maths, some of the children are working on place value (see here for a quick explainer) and others have started on addition. Last year, the school made a series of films with the aim of helping parents to better understand how we teach maths to your children. The addition film is here.
- In geography, we learned about some of the different animals that live in the rainforest (which should come in handy for literacy next week!). Next week, we’ll be comparing the Amazon rainforest with a local forest. What’s the same and what’s different?
- In art, we made wax crayon rubbings of lots of different surfaces and textures and then used these to make collage flowers.
- In RE and Worldviews, we learned about the importance of meditation to Buddhists.
PE and swimming
As well as PE for everyone on Monday, it is Mr. Burrows’s class’s turn to go swimming this Tuesday afternoon. Miss Lunnon’s class should come to school in PE kit that day.
Forest Camp
Friday 11th Oct
Layla H-P, Toby J, Flavia M, Ellie P, Sam P, Daniel R, Miles R, Ocean S, Toby T, William V, Theo W, Fenix W-B
On the day of your child’s Forest Camp session:
-
They should come to school in their Forest Camp clothes: any long-sleeved top and trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty! Don’t worry about it looking like school uniform; whatever you have will be fine.
- They need to wear their school shoes or clean trainers in the morning as they will be in the classroom as normal.
- They need to bring wellies and waterproofs (in a separate bag) to wear in the afternoon.
We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
