Term 1 Week 4 update

Hello, and welcome to another Year 3 weekly update. We hope that your children enjoy their extra day at home, while we teachers will be doing some learning of our own and beautifying the school ready on our Open Afternoon on Tuesday.

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have been getting ourselves ready for writing a setting description about the book Dinosaurs And All That Rubbish, by learning about expanded noun phrases and prepositions. Next week, we’ll write them, and and then start our new topic of rainforest reports.
  • In maths, we are continuing to look at place value. Mr. Burrows has made a quick video about what place value is, and how you can support your child at home with it. You can find it here.
  • In geography, we learned about the different layers of the rainforest. Test your children on it! Next week, we’ll be learning about some of the animals that live in the rainforest.
  • In art, we made self-portraits! One of our jobs during the INSET is to put some of them up in the hall. Next time you’re in there, have a look!
  • In RE, we discussed spirituality as part of our big question of the term, ‘What makes us human?’. We talked about mindfulness, and ways in which we all find peace. Next week, we’ll be learning about how Buddhists achieve this.

PE and Swimming

As well as PE on Monday for everyone, it will be Miss Lunnon’s class’s turn to go swimming on Tuesday afternoon. However, as it is the open afternoon on Tuesday, Mr. Burrows’s class will not have PE. Children can come to school in normal uniform (although, obviously, it is not a problem if they come to school in PE kit).

Forest Camp

Friday 4th Oct

On the day of your child’s Forest Camp session:
  • They should come to school in their Forest Camp clothes: any long-sleeved top and trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty! Don’t worry about it looking like school uniform; whatever you have will be fine.
  • They need to wear their school shoes or clean trainers in the morning as they will be in the classroom as normal.
  • They need to bring wellies and waterproofs (in a separate bag) to wear in the afternoon.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing your children again on Monday morning.
