Hello and welcome to another weekly Year 3 update. The heat has made concentrating and maintaining focus particularly difficult over the past few days, but we’re pleased to say that your children dealt with the stickiness and heat really well and continued to work hard despite the conditions.
Also, a quick public service announcement: There is no school on Monday!
This week, we have been up to the following:
- In literacy, we have continued to read through Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have just met Augustus Gloop and Veruca Salt, and we look forward to seeing the other Golden Ticket holders next week.
- In maths, we are learning to tell the time. Please help your children by discussing time with them at home. This is an essential skill, which they will grasp much quicker if they are spending time thinking about it both at home and at school.
- In geography, we talked about longitude and latitude lines, and how we can use them as coordinates to find places on a map. We’ll continue to look at this next week.
- In DT, the children have started to design the logo and overall look for their retail product’s packaging.
- In PSHE, we have continued to think about economic wellbeing. This week, we looked at what happens when people spend money. Why do they spend it? What might the consequences be?
PE and swimming
On Tuesday, it will be the turn of Mr. Burrows’ class to go swimming. It will be a lifesaving session, so can children please bring some long-sleeved pyjamas along with their normal swimming kit. Miss Lunnon’s class should come to school in PE kit on that day.
Homework
Back in September, we told you that one of the main aims of Year 3 is to try and help develop your child’s independent. Broadly, we feel we are achieving that, but we would appreciate it if you could keep a careful eye on their homework, particularly online. We have noticed a larger-than-expected number of children coming to school on Thursday without completing TTRS and Spelling Shed. By Thursday morning, each child should have completed the following (unless they have a prior arrangement with their teacher, e.g. spending time on Nessy):
- 10 minutes on TTRS
- 5 games of Spelling Shed (this week, the words are all based on our geography topic)
- At least 4 signed reads in planners.
Water bottles and hats
Although it looks as though next week will be cooler, we would recommend that children come to school with a hat in their bags to wear during lunchtimes. It is also essential that, regardless of the weather, your child comes to school with a water bottle.
We hope you have a lovely long weekend (remember: no school on Monday!), and we will see your children bright and early on Tuesday morning.
