Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 4 Week 1

Year 6 Update

This week, Year 6 have begun the first of two weeks exploring the question: Should children own pets? This will lead into a balanced argument, where pupils will carefully consider both sides of the debate before forming their own conclusions. We are already seeing some thoughtful ideas and lively discussions!

In Maths, the children continue to work extremely hard as they prepare for their SATs in May. Their focus and determination have been fantastic to see.

On Monday, we were delighted to welcome author Gareth P. Jones, who delivered an engaging and inspiring session. Many pupils have since been motivated to begin writing their own horror stories — we may have some future authors in our midst!

In History, as part of our World War Two topic, the children have been learning about the Battle of Britain and its significance during the war.

STEM Week Request

During STEM Week (week commencing 9th March), the children will be taking part in a rocket experiment (not real ones, thankfully!) led by local business Johnson Matthey.

To make this possible, we are in need of 20 empty 1.5 litre plastic bottles. If you have any at home, we would be very grateful if you could send them in as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued support!
