Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Year 6 Term 1 Week 7

Weekly Update

Firstly, thank you to all parents, carers and families for their generous contributions to the school swimming pool fundraiser – keep your eyes peeled for a final total, but it is in the thousands, which is fantastic!

Lots of excellent learning has taken place this week:

In Literacy, the children concluded their work on the Titanic with a lively debate about who was responsible for the tragedy. On Thursday, those not involved in helping with the Open Morning took part in a collaborative writing competition. The entries were impressive, and the winning piece from each class, as voted for by their peers, earned a well-deserved prize.

In ICT, pupils brought together everything they’ve learned in their Python unit by using their coding skills to create artwork inspired by the artist Piet Mondrian. The results were both creative and technically impressive!

In PSHE, discussions focused on understanding the risks associated with alcohol consumption, helping children to recognise the difference between moderate and excessive drinking, and to think carefully about healthy, responsible choices.

Reminders:
A few important notes ahead of next week’s Woodlands residential:

  • Children need to be at school from 7:30am on Monday, ready for departure. Please remember any medications and/or travel sickness treatments.

  • Please ensure they bring a disposable packed lunch to eat on the journey.

  • There has been some confusion about pocket money and stamps for postcards – neither are needed.

We’re looking forward to an amazing week away full of new experiences and adventures!
