Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Year 6 Term 1 Week 5

It’s been another busy and productive week at school, with the children working hard across all areas of the curriculum.

In literacy, the children have been writing their own non-chronological reports (fact files) about a sea creature of their choice. They have been researching, planning and reviewing their information and are just finishing writing them up in best.

In maths, the focus has been on attempting their first practice SATs papers.

In ICT, pupils have enjoyed exploring coding using Python, learning how to write instructions to draw houses on screen.

In science, the children have been learning about microorganisms. They have set up an investigation into the growth of mould on bread under different conditions and are looking forward to monitoring the results over the coming weeks.

In art, the children have been busy creating a display for the school hall, based on the theme of colour.

In RE, discussions have centred around Judaism and Islam, particularly why some people may choose to wear a hair or face covering as part of their faith. The children have shown respect and curiosity as they explored these important beliefs and practices.

Finally, a reminder: Don’t forget that this Sunday is the annual Sonning Common 10k, starting at 9:30am. Even if you’re not running, we’d love to see families out supporting—come along to cheer on the runners and enjoy plenty of coffee, cake and BBQ treats!

Well done to all the children for their hard work and positive attitude this week!
