Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 28th September

The children did a great job of making their fruit kebabs last week and worked well with their partners! Thank you for your cooperation with the change of routine at the end of the day – let us know if we need to tweak it at all to make things work more smoothly.

This week we will be looking at different kinds of vegetables and how they are grown: we will also be making a chart of everyone’s favourite vegetable and printing with vegetables. In literacy we will be getting to know the story of ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ to get us in the mood! We will be writing simple sentences beginning ‘I can’ to describe the things the children like to do and making them into a class book.

In maths we are continuing with counting backwards, 1 less and 1 more, and then beginning to compare numbers of objects. Here is a game to practice sequencing numbers:Caterpillar ordering  Games like Ludo, Snakes and Ladders and Hopscotch are also great to practise number skills in a stress-free way!

On Monday it is the turn of the Fire and Water teams to go to Forest Camp and it is our turn to swim on Wednesday. To help the children manage with dressing skills we are sending an extra adult along, but keeping clothing as simple as possible on swimming days will also help – tights in particular can be a challenge! If the children can be encouraged to work on their dressing skills every day (we are happy to give team points if you let us know) then changing should become less tricky for the children.

Thanks,

The Year 1 Team
