Next week, in literacy, we will be continuing to plan our ‘How to Catch a giant’ instructions – so far there is a net, a lava pit and possibly a food lure! On Thursday morning there is a drama workshop on the theme of Peter Pan. We have sent home a list of words to read including some which are real words and some which are made up nonsense words (the children call them alien words). The routine they have is to spot the sounds, sound the word through, then say what it says. It may help them to underline the sounds they have spotted: they don’t have to read all the words at once and could read a few every day.
In maths we will still be working on arrays and making and adding equal groups, whilst in science we will be learning about wild and garden plants (the sunflowers are doing well).
Geography will be looking more closely at London and its landmarks and in art we are moving on from threading to weaving. If you have any spare shoeboxes at home, please send them in because there is more weaving to come!
Forest Camp on Monday will be for the Fire and Earth teams, and Year 1 are swimming on Wednesday. We will also be starting to practise Maypole DancingĀ in preparation for the Summer Fair.
Thanks,
The Year 1 Team
