Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 27th April

We hope that you are all enjoying the unexpectedly gorgeous weather! The children have been really enjoying their playtimes this week. If it carries on into next week, we may need to be thinking about water/hats/sun screen rather earlier than usual… The class photo, which was taken on Monday, is up on the window by the classroom door.

Next week we will be having shorter phonics sessions to give us more time for working on using adjectives and  writing our own version of the beginning of Jack and the Beanstalk.

In maths we will be working on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s; recognising equal groups and adding them.

In science our sunflowers have started to pop up and we will be talking about the different parts of a plant and having a go at labelling them. In geography we will be practising labelling the different countries of the UK and also having some fun using aerial photos and Google Earth to imagine a balloon ride over some familiar places.  In computing the children will be taking photos to make a simple photo story.

On Monday it is the turn of the Fire and Earth teams to go to Forest Camp and we are swimming on Wednesday afternoon.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Year 1 Team
