Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 16th September

Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our Curriculum Sharing meeting last Thursday. The power point presentation and notes from the meeting are now on the documents page of the Year 1 section of the website for you, if you were unable to attend. Paper copies can be provided to those who would like them. Please don’t hesitate to come and speak with us if there is anything else you would like to ask.

Thank you for the baby photos that we have already received and keep them coming – its a really good talking point in class.

This week we will be continuing with short phonic sessions to build the children’s confidence and stamina and we will also be writing lists. In maths we with be learning about representing numbers to 10: representing a number with objects, digits, words and drawings to deepen the childrens understanding of what a number is. Here is a link to a Topmarks game that practises linking number words to digits. Your child will probably need support initially to read the the number words.

Fruit splat game

In science this week, we will begin looking at our senses and exploring what they can help us do: focusing on hearing and touch. Our art activity will be making self portraits out of plasticine, and in DT we will be doing more peeling, chopping and grating activities in preparation for making fruit kebabs. Get your child to show off their skills and help you cook!

The Fire and Water teams will have their turn at Forest Camp on Monday and the other children will need their PE kits.

Thank you,

The Year 1 Team
