Welcome to Year !
Your children all coped really well with their first three days last week – we were very impressed! We are looking forward to seeing you at our Curriculum Sharing meeting on Thursday at 5.30pm – a link should be sent home in the next couple of days for you to join the meeting.
On Friday we sent home story books for you to share with your child and we will change them again on Monday. By Friday, we should have sorted out appropriately levelled reading books for everyone and there will be two books coming home: one for you to read to your child and one for them to read to you with your support.
This week we will be starting our phonics lessons, establishing our classroom routines and getting to know each other: we will be drawing our families and talking about who lives with us. It would be really nice to have a display of all of us as babies, so if you have a good baby photo of your child – or a photo/photocopy of one (we know they are precious) that you could send in to share with the class, that would be brilliant.
In maths we will be sorting objects by different features: shape, size, colour etc. and also practising and developing our counting skills and number formation. In science we are naming different body parts and talking about what they are for. In DT we will be looking at different kinds of fruits, tasting them, and looking at different ways to peel or chop them.
On Monday half the children will be having their first Forest Camp session: we can provide waterproof trousers but wellies and coats will be needed (nothing that you will mind getting muddy!) The children who are not at Forest Camp will have a PE session and, to avoid confusion about changing, if all the children just bring in their PE kits, then we can help them change where necessary.
On Thursday we will have our first swimming lessons. Initially the children will be grouped randomly so that the swimming teacher can see how they get on. Then next week they will be grouped by swimming ability so that everyone can be taught according to their needs.
Thanks from all in Year 1
