Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 20th May

On Tuesday next week we will be going on our visit to the Earth Trust. Currently the weather looks to be fine during the day, so the children should wear a school sweatshirt/cardigan, strong shoes or trainers and bring a water bottle. There will be long grass and possibly brambles/nettles in places, so it would be a good idea to wear leggings or jogging bottoms – just in case. A light portable waterproof would also be a good idea. Children will need to be in school by 8.45am to provide enough time for multiple trips to the toilet before we get on the coach!

As it will be the last week of term 5, we will also be completing phonics assessments ready for next term. Thank you for your continued support with the phonics practice and spellings, it really helps. Our writing next week will be a recount of the trip.

Maths next week will be about position and direction. We will be practising positional language such as in front of, behind, left, right, under, over, next to, and also half, quarter, three-quarter and whole turns, which will be the most challenging part. This will be your chance to sit on the sofa at home and direct your child to collect items, rather than getting up yourselves!!

Science will be finishing off our bean diaries (surviving beans will be sent home for planting out) and identifying common fruit and vegetables.

Miss Snowden’s class will be swimming next Wednesday.
