Next week is STEM week (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) so we will be shortening our phonics sessions for the week to make room for a lot more practical activities. The theme this year is ‘Curiosity: What’s your question?’ We will be looking at the kinds of questions the children have (not all of which are easily testable: ‘when does space end?’ and ‘why do people have belly buttons?’!!) as well as a larger question related to our space theme. We will be exploring what kind of vehicle would work best on the moon, building a basic buggy, and then testing and improving them to be moon-ready! Thank you for all the junk that came in this week – keep it coming!
Maths will be looking at measurement and we will start out by working on comparative language: taller, longer and shorter and then move on to measuring objects using non-standard measures such as measuring with cubes or paper clips.
Forest Camp will be for the Fire and Earth teams and there is no swimming on Wednesday. On Thursday morning there will be a Drama-4-All workshop and in the afternoon there will be a science workshop on magnets.
Thanks,
The Year 1 Team
