We hope you all enjoyed a lovely Christmas with your families – Happy New Year from us all!
This term in literacy we will be looking at some traditional tales, beginning with the Three Little Pigs. This week we will be reading different versions of the story and writing speech bubbles for what the different characters say. In handwriting we have begun to learn the formation of cursive letters – so far so good! We have moved the days where we have longer phonics lessons, which will mean that the children will bring home their Read, Write, Inc books home on a Friday instead of Wednesday.
In maths we are learning about place value with numbers to 20 and using various types of visuals to represent the numbers (words, dice, dominos, Numicon, bead strings etc) so that the children have a clear picture of the size of the number. In computing we are using last term’s work on commands and instructions and beginning to apply that to using simple programmable toys.
In history we will be learning about the invention of photography and how we can use photos to teach us about life in the UK over the past hundred years. – so if you have some old black and white family photos that are gathering dust, this might be the moment to share them with your child! Art this term will be exploring colour and colour mixing.
Forest Camp next week is for the Air and Water teams and we are swimming on Wednesday.
Thanks,
The Year 1 Team
