Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 17th November

Thank you so much to the parents who came and helped with the ‘Toys Day’ on Tuesday, (and also to those who have offered to come and read/help out in the classroom). The children loved it and we had a brilliant day. Talking of which,  the children met their Year 6 buddies for the first time today and will have regular activity sessions together every other Friday.

Next week we will send home a questionnaire so that you can share your experiences (and grandparents too) of the toys you played with as a child. If you have the chance to talk with your child about the kinds of toys you played with and how things have changed, that would be really helpful. We will also be sending more information about Nativity costumes, but these will not be needed until the 8th December (the week of our dress rehearsal).

Next week is Road Safety Week so we will be talking about how to cross the road safely and making our own road safety posters. In maths we will be continuing to work on our subtraction skills and solving simple problems. In RE we will be learning about creation stories and in computing we are learning about commands and the different ways that we give commands and instructions to computers.

Alongside this is the beginnings of the tsunami of Christmas activities: learning songs and actions, and dances and making props and decorations!

The Air and Water teams have their Forest Camp sessions on Monday and there is no swimming this week.

Thanks,

The Year 1 Team
