Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 10th November

This term in history we are focusing on toys: the ones the children play with now, and the kinds that children played with in the past. We will be sending home questionnaires to find out which toys parents and grandparents enjoyed and talking about how else we can find out about toys that were played with long ago. On Tuesday next week we are having our ‘Toys Day’ which is a lovely opportunity for the children to experience a great variety of toys from the past, as well as making simple toys of their own. Thank you to those of you who have volunteered to help out on the day – we really appreciate your time and it means that the children are able to work in small groups and spend time playing with the toys. If anyone else is willing, please do let us know. We will send home the exact timings of the day on Monday.

Maths next week will be moving on to simple subtraction activities and in science we will be testing the spinning stops that we have made this week and finding out which surfaces are best to spin them on. We are just starting to learn the Nativity songs and will send home more details about costumes soon (don’t worry, nothing complicated or expensive!)

Thursday is World Kindness Day so there will be lots of stories and time spent talking about the sorts of things that we can do to show kindness to others. Forest Camp on Monday is for the Earth and Fire teams and Year 1 are swimming on Wednesday.
