Sonning Common Primary School

Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Week beginning 10th March

Thank heavens for some decent weather! The children all really enjoyed World Book Day and the opportunity to wear their slippers and be out of routine – it was a lovely day, thank you for your support.

In the coming week we learning about the life of Neil Armstrong and watching videos of rocket launches as a starting point for some descriptive writing at the end of the week. In handwriting we will be joining short common words such as ‘to’ and ‘at’ that the children can start to include in their writing. We will also be trying to ‘cosy up’ our book corner, based on the ideas that the children had last week.

In maths we will being continuing the work on place value with numbers to 50: the children are getting on well so far but games with larger numbers like ‘snakes and ladders’, or spotting house numbers as you walk around, will help to consolidate their understanding. In DT we will be building frame structures in different ways: cocktail sticks and plasticine or rolled up paper and tape. In art we are making different types of paper sculptures.

We are talking about caring for animals in PHSCE, so perhaps for show-and-tell the children could bring photos of family pets and talk about what is needed to care for them?

The Earth and Air teams are going to Forest Camp on Monday and PE is on Wednesday as usual.
