Term 5 Week 4 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 post. Next week, our Year 6 children will be taking their KS2 SATs (and Mr Burrows’s daughter will be doing the same) – one year to go! Argh! Where does the time go?

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have finished drafting our stories and have published them (i.e. written them up in neatest handwriting). They are excellent! Next week, we’ll be looking at playscripts.
  • In maths, we have either been looking at shape and angles, or we’ve completed our work on decimals.
  • In history, we looked at the significance of masks in Ancient Maya culture (as well as learning more generally about how they dress). We also designed our own masks, ready to make later in the term.
  • In DT, we decided on the ingredients for our healthy muffins – again, something we will make later in the term.
  • In science, we learned the difference between dissolving and melting.

Chiltern Edge ‘Wow Day’

We have been invited to attend a ‘Wow Day’, held at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge school on Wednesday (13th). There is no extra cost for this event, and should be a fun mix of different lessons. Can you please sure that your child comes to school in their PE kit, as well as with a packed lunch and water.

You should have received an email with an online permission form. If you haven’t already, please fill out the form by Tuesday.

Forest Camp

It’s Year 5’s turn to go to Forest Camp again! We’ll be going over the next few Fridays: 8th May, 15th May, 22nd May and 5th June.

On the day of your child’s Forest Camp session:

  • They may come to school in their Forest Camp clothes: any long-sleeved top and trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty!
  • They need to wear their school shoes or clean trainers in the morning as they will be in the classroom as normal.
  • They need to bring wellies and waterproofs (in a separate bag) to wear in the afternoon.

The groups are as follows:

8th May 5RB/TC: Bell A-C, Lottie H, Sam A, Jack D, Wilbur H, Leo B, Ethan B, Paisley B, Logan B, Finn W, Rafa F, Zachary H, Maleek J-W, Jacob N.

PE

PE will be on Monday and Friday this week (unless your child is at Forest Camp), and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the (hopefully) clement conditions.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Tuesday morning.
