Term 5 Week 2 update

Hi everyone,

First of all, a massive thank you to those of you who came to the Performance Evening on Thursday night. We need to invest in a bigger hall or more chairs, it seems! It was a wonderful evening, made even more special by your support. Mr Burrows’ class got to perform Chocolate Cake to the whole school during Friday assembly, which was really well received. Year 5 has some absolute stars in the making!

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we’re starting to develop the next chapter of This Is NOT A Fairy Tale by Jeremy Strong. We’ll keep working on it next week.
  • In maths, some children have been learning about shapes and angles, and others have been adding and subtracting decimals.
  • In RE, we were lucky enough to visit Maidenhead mosque on Thursday. It was a rare opportunity to see the main features of a mosque, along with learning the basic tenets of Islam.
  • In science, Mr Burrows’ class invented and conducted an experiment testing what makes a good thermal inductor. Mr Andrews’ class will get to do the same next week.
  • In PE on Monday, we worked on our cricket skills.

Spelling words

This week, our spelling words are ‘challenge’ words – words that have irregular spelling patterns. They are: accompany, communicate, conscience, desperate, disastrous, interfere, nuisance, queue, restaurant and rhythm.

PE

PE will be on Monday and Friday this week, and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the (hopefully) clement conditions.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
