Term 2 Week 5 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update, and welcome to December! It was lovely to see so many of you during Tuesday’s and Thursday’s parent consultations. If, for whatever reason, you were unable to attend your appointment, please come and find us on the playground or get in touch with the office to rearrange.

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have been gathering up facts about Victorian workhouses to help us write a report on them next week.
  • In maths, we have either been working hard on fractions or working on mulitplication and division word problems.
  • In topic, we learned about Victorian schoolhouses.
  • In RE, were were learning about the different Christian denominations.
  • In science, we conducted an experiment to see which seeds germinate quickest: cress, carrot, radish or sunflower. Place your bets!

Spellings

This week, we’ve been working on ‘challenge’ words (words that have silent or tricky letters, don’t fit with phonological patterns, etc.). There are: accommodate, dictionary, secretary, available, marvellous, sincerely, opportunity, controversy, suggest and twelfth.

PE

PE will be on Monday and Friday this week, and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children wrap up warm on both those days. In addition, Friday’s session will be on the field so please make sure your children come to school with a spare pair of footwear.

Forest Camp

The second half of Mr Burrows and Mr Coates’s class will be going to Forest Camp on Friday 12th December.

On the day of your child’s Forest Camp session:

  • They may come to school in their Forest Camp clothes: any long-sleeved top and trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty!
  • They need to wear their school shoes or clean trainers in the morning as they will be in the classroom as normal.
  • They need to bring wellies and waterproofs (in a separate bag) to wear in the afternoon.

12th December, 5RBTC:

Ellianna D, Tilly E, Darragh F, Kit G, Ava H, Sophie P, Riad R, Vivienne R-H, Nanaka S, India S-B, Henry V, Zac W,  Albie W, Jessica C

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we’ll see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
