Hi, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. This week, we have been up to the following:

• In literacy, we have been working on writing our own Dreamtime fairy tales. Next week, we’ll continue the Australian theme by writing descriptions of some of its beautiful settings.
• In maths, we were either continuing on with place value or we’ moved onto the new topic of addition and subtraction. For more about how we teach adding and subtracting in the school, go to our Maths Made Clear series on YouTube, here.
• In our geography topic of Australia, we learned about the similarities and differences between there and the UK. Next week, we’ll be delving into Aboriginal art.
• In art, we used water and felt tips to create expressive scenes of cherished memories.
• In science, we looked at how long it takes different planets to orbit around the Sun. Next week, we’ll be learning more about the moon.

PE

This is just a reminder that PE is on Mondays and Fridays, so please make sure your children come dressed appropriately. Fridays are outdoor PE days, and so we’d appreciate it if you send in an extra pair of shoes in case the field is muddy.
