Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 3 Week 4 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. We’ve had a week working very hard on our Greek myths, and we’re extremely proud of your children’s efforts. Please ask them what they’ve been writing – we bet you’ll be impressed!

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • As mentioned, in literacy we’ve been writing up our Greek myths. Next week, we’ll be spending time looking at poetry. We’ll be reading and writing haikus, senryus and rengas, as well choosing our favourite poems to learn and recite.
  • In maths, some children have been working on multiplication and division and others have been concentrating on decimals and percentages.
  • In history, we compared the Ancient Greek Olympics with the modern-day version.
  • In science this week, we started conducting an experiment to help us to answer the question ‘Do heavier things fall faster?’. Next week, we’ll complete it and draw some conclusions.
  • In art, we made some architectural monoprints.

Spelling words

This week, our spelling words all start with silent letters. They are: knife, knight, knowledge, knuckle, mnemonic, pterodactyl, wreath, wreckage, wrestler and writer.

PE

PE will be on Monday and Friday this week, and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children wrap up warm on both those days. In addition, Friday’s session will be on the field so please make sure your children come to school with a spare pair of footwear.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we will see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
