Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. Winter seems to have finally reached us, and so this is a gentle reminder to make sure that your children come to school appropriately dressed for the temperature! We know that getting your child to take a coat with them or wear trousers instead of shorts can be a pitched battle sometimes, but we really appreciate your efforts.
This week, your children have been up to the following:
- In literacy, we have been planning to write diary entries as Jim Jarvis, the hero from our Victorian novel, Street Child. Next week, we’ll write them, and then start to think about writing reports about workhouses.
- In maths, we have either been working on fractions or long multiplication.
- In art, we produced our Christmas hoops ready for the Christmas fair. Come and bask in their magnificence next Saturday!
- In music, we’re continuing to spend time learning the recorder.
- In science, we learned about some of the different ways plants reproduce.
PE
PE will be on Monday and Friday this week, and they will both be outdoors, so please make sure your children wrap up warm on both those days. In addition, Friday’s session will be on the field so please make sure your children come to school with a spare pair of footwear.
Oxfordshire County Council Play Survey
The council would like the opinions of parents and carers about your children’s opportunities to play. The schools that have the most parent and carer responses will be entered into a prize draw for a £250 voucher towards play equipment. If you’d like to contribute, please click this link and complete the short online survey.
Cardboard needed!
Next Wednesday (26th November), Year 5 children will be making their own Victorian cam toys. In order to do this, we will need plenty of cardboard to make the frame structure for these toys. If you could please save, and the children bring in, any spare carboard (e.g. cereal boxes, shoeboxes, delivery boxes, etc.) from Monday (24th November) onwards, that would be very much appreciated.
Forest Camp
Year 5 will be going to Forest Camp over the next few weeks on these Friday afternoons:
- Dates – 28th Nov – Mr Andrews’ class
- Dates – 5th & 12th December – Mr Burrows and Mr Coates’ class
On the day of your child’s Forest Camp session:
- They may come to school in their Forest Camp clothes: any long-sleeved top and trousers that you don’t mind getting dirty!
- They need to wear their school shoes or clean trainers in the morning as they will be in the classroom as normal.
- They need to bring wellies and waterproofs (in a separate bag) to wear in the afternoon.
