Space to learn, grow and be inspired

Term 2 Week 2 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. It’s been a good week here, and we were privileged to visit the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke on Friday. Keep an eye out on the school’s social media pages for some photos!

This week, we have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we’ve been continuing to look at Street Child, the story of little Jim, a poverty-stricken child in Victorian London. Next week, we’ll be writing diary entries on the topic of Jim’s daring escape from the workhouse.
  • In maths, we’ve either started looking at fractions or we’ve started learning the process of long multiplication.
  • In history, we compared and contrasted houses of today to those in Victorian times. Children were pleased that outhouses shared between several families are a thing of the past!
  • In DT, we carefully thought about the design of our cam toys.
  • In science, we finished our factfiles on famous naturalists, such as Sir David Attenborough and Charles Darwin.

PE

PE will be on Monday and Friday, so please make sure your children come to school dressed accordingly on those days. With the weather getting increasingly unpleasant, please also make sure that children come to school on Friday with a spare pair of shoes or trainers, as PE is outdoors.

We hope you have a wonderful weekend, and we’ll see your children bright and early on Monday morning.
