Term 1 Week 5 update

Hello, and welcome to another weekly Year 5 update. The slow, inevitable creep into Autumn seems to upon us, and so we wanted to remind you to make sure that your child comes into school with a coat every day. They won’t be needed some days, but your child will be grateful for the days that they are!

This week, your children have been up to the following:

  • In literacy, we have been studying and writing poetry. More specifically, haikus. Ask your children to tell you what they are and how they are constructed!
  • In maths, we have either been looking at addition & subtraction and multiplication & division. Don’t forget to check our Maths Made Clear videos for more information about how we teach these subjects.
  • In geography, we studied some Aboriginal artefacts and thought about what they tell us about their culture. Next week, we’ll be doing some map work around longitude and latitude lines.
  • In art, we produced some beautiful Aboriginal Dreaming pictures, based on the work of Emily Kame Kngwarreye.
  • In PE, we play some tag rugby on Fridays and have been ‘dancing through the decades’ on Mondays. This week, we were doing the shuffle in the 1970s!

PE

Speaking of PE, please remember that PE days are Mondays and Fridays and children should be dressed accordingly. Please also remember to make sure your child brings in a spare pair of footwear on Fridays as they will be out on the field.

INSET day, this Friday

In case you have missed it, the school will be closed on Friday 10th October for an INSET day.

We hope you have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing your children bright and early on Monday morning.
