Hello, and welcome to the first weekly Year 5 newsletter of the year! We are very happy to welcome you to our Year Five community.
First of all, we’re delighted to say that your children have settled in beautifully this week. They have set a high standard that we will expect them to reach for the rest of the year.
Each week, this newsletter will keep you updated briefly on current plans and activities – usually on a Friday. For more substantial messages about trips or visits, you should expect to receive a separate MCAS email. This week, we have been up to the following:
- In literacy, we recounted our summer holidays. Next week, we’ll be reading some Aboriginal stories (linked to our topic of Australia), with the view of writing our own.
- In maths, we’ve started with our traditional topic of place value.
- In geography, we learned about the states and capitals of Australia. Next week, we’ll be learning about some significant places in the country.
- In art, we practised expressive mark making.
- In science, we learned about the planets in the solar system.
PE
Our PE days are Mondays and Fridays, so please make sure your children come to school on those days in the correct kit. We will be doing outdoor PE on Fridays, so it might be worth packing an extra set of footwear.
Curriculum Sharing evening
We are looking forward to seeing you for a brief curriculum and timetable sharing session on Tuesday evening – 9th September – at 5.45pm. The link will be sent to you in the next few days. We will obviously be happy to answer any questions and address any concerns.
We hope you have been getting good reviews from your children over the past few days, but if you have any questions or concerns, our door is always open for you. We hope you have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards,
Tom Andrews, Robin Burrows, Tim Coates and the TA team
