On Thursday 7th March the Year 5/6 girls’ football team travelled to Goring Primary School to play the second match of our football league season.
We started well, keeping the ball in the Goring half and moving the ball around nicely. We also created a few chances, the most notable coming from Hazel, who fired just wide from a corner. As much as we persevered, we just couldn’t get a clear cut opportunity and went in at half time with the score at 0-0.
The second half continued in much the same way, with the girls coming closer and closer to scoring – Georgie had a good effort from long range saved, and Elsie shot wide of the goal.
With moments to spare, the best move of the match, as well as the winning goal, came. Sofia collected the ball in her hands and rolled it out to Evie, who passed it into the midfield where Georgie controlled the ball and played it out wide to Lola. Lola crossed it into Sophie, who laid the ball off for Elsie to hit a powerful shot into the far corner with what proved to be the last kick of the game.
Jubilant scenes followed the final whistle, with the girls deservedly proud of their performance and delighted to secure their first league win of the season. We take this result and performance into next week’s South Oxfordshire Final, and will also look to build on this in our upcoming league matches.
Once again, thank you to those who helped transport the girls as well as those who provided some great support throughout the match!
The team was: Sofia M-P, Ella-Lily B, Evie Q, Elsie D, Lola B, Sophie A, Freya K, Lily HDLM, Lily-May Y, Hazel B-M and Georgie Q.
