Year 3/4 Rounders Tournament

Miss Green and Coach Joe had the privilege of accompanying a mixed team of Year 3 and 4 pupils to Peppard Common for the annual rounders tournament—and they weren’t alone! A huge thank you goes to our band of loyal, supportive parents who cheered us on all afternoon and helped create such a positive atmosphere. We’re also incredibly grateful to the parents who volunteered to drive us to the event—your help made the day possible.
Despite a few early hiccups with team entries and several close calls with the weather, the day was a shining example of teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience.
Our team took on five schools: Peppard, Kidmore End, Valley Road, and Shiplake. From the very first game, the children showcased excellent rounders skills and a commitment to doing their best.
Game 1 vs Kidmore End:
Dino was outstanding on first base, forming an unstoppable partnership with Jack S as bowler. Kit also impressed with some excellent catches, setting the tone for the day. The team secured a strong win by 4½ rounders.
Game 2:
Big hits dominated the second game, with Jack D’s powerful strike sending three players all the way round the bases in a single turn! The momentum continued, and we ended with another victory—this time by 2½ rounders.
Game 3:
By this point, teamwork was running like clockwork. Jacob showed clever thinking, hitting the ball the opposite way to outsmart the fielders. With more brilliant batting, we won by a convincing 6½ rounders.
Game 4 – A Display of Respect:
With the opposing team short of players, Tegan, Poppy, and Joey stepped up and volunteered to play alongside them—showing true sportsmanship and kindness. Tegan, in particular, stood out with her strongest performance of the day, scoring multiple rounders. Our team won the game, maintaining our unbeaten streak.
Final Game – Tournament Decider:
Despite a few unsportsmanlike moments from the opposition, our players stayed focused and positive. Their determination and composure paid off and with another strong performance, we secured victory—clinching the tournament win and stopping Shiplake from completing the Year 3–4 and 5–6 double.
Miss Green is still smiling at the memory of the team’s triumphant “We Are the Champions” singalong and the joyful trophy celebration. With such an amazing display of talent and teamwork, we’re already looking forward to defending the title next year!
