Dear Parents,
We hope that you have been enjoying the glorious weather that we have been having. We certainly have! The sand pit has been open, we have enjoyed water play and have loved spending more time on the field at lunchtime. With this in mind, please do remember to apply sun cream to your child as well as send them in with a water bottle and hat to keep them safe in the sun. Thank you.
This week, we have been learning about life in a castle. We have learnt about the types of people that lived in castles. We have also made and decorated crowns, built our own castles from a range of materials and have relished the opportunity to dress up as knights and princesses and gallop around on hobby horses!
If your child has been enjoying this topic, have a look at BBC Bitesize for more information and fun Castles – BBC Bitesize Come in ready to share what you have found out during Show and Tell. Don’t forget that you will get a team point for your hard work!
We will carry on with this topic for the start of next week and will then be enjoying a visit from the author Korky Paul (writer of the Winnie the Witch series) on Thursday as well as celebrating VE Day.
We will carry on with our normal Phonics lessons, please do look out for the extra phonics books in your child’s book bag and try to read through a few times during the week/ over the weekend. This will help with your child’s fluency and understanding.

Our Maths session will cover number patterns. We will be thinking about doubling, halving and money. Here are a few games which might help to consolidate what we have learnt Hit the Button – Quick fire maths practise for 6-11 year olds (select ‘Doubles to 10’ and ‘Halves to 10’.
We would like to thank everybody that watched our Maypole dancing on Thursday. A huge thank you too for supporting our cake sale. So many cakes were donated and it looked like they were all enjoyed too! The money will be split between Kites and Year 1 and the rest to the RSPCA. We have chosen to put our money towards a medieval banquet next week to finish off our castle topic.
Although it is warm, it is still essential that children are dressed appropriately at Forest Camp. Please could children have a long sleeved top and trousers. Thank you.
Reminders:
Bank Holiday Mon 5th May
