Dear Kites Parents,
This week we have been looking at being superheroes; what makes us super and focusing on our main book: Supertato! We have also listened to: The Respectful Dot, Worrysaurus and Super Duper ME. The children have been describing Supertato, saving fruits and vegetables from elastic bands, crafting evil peas, creating masks, breaking free frozen flowers, making armies of evil peas with playdough, creating evil pea traps and practising our superhero tactics on the obstacle courses. We have continued to focus on our superhero responsibilities in class (looking after each other as well as our class resources) and how we can be kind and respectful.
In phonics, the children have been introduced to the sounds g, o and c. They have also been practising writing the sounds using whiteboards and superhero letter formation. We have been having fun doing some Fred Talk too. If you want to have a go at home, you could play ‘Fred says (or mummy/daddy) says touch your h-ea-d’ and see if your child can orally blend the word and do the action.
The children continue to love meeting the Ten Town characters, we have looked at the numbers 9, 10, and 11 this week. We have been spotting numbers all around us and using our super duper counting skills to spot the superheroes.
We made some delicious crispy cakes on Thursday by following instructions and enjoyed learning a superhero dance, I am sure the children will impress you with their moves at home!
We had our first few visits to the library where Mrs Legg reads us a story and we then had a look around the library and read some stories of our own. The library is open to the public on Mondays (2.00-5.00), Wednesdays (2.00-7.00), Thursdays and Fridays (9.00-1.00, 2.00-5.00), and Saturdays (9.30-12.30). We highly recommend taking your child to visit as they get their free Library card during this first term.
Next week will be looking at Feelings and emotions based on the colour monster. We will continue to focus on set 1 sounds, c , k, u, b . We will also be looking at the numbers 12, 13, 14 and 15 on Ten Town and thinking about representing the number in different ways, for example, by clapping to 14, drawing 14 circles, writing the number 14, finding 14 astronaut figures.
Reminders: Please could you name your child’s shoes. Thank you
