Dear Parents,
It has been lovely to welcome the children back into the classroom this week with their smiles and Easter stories. We have had a fantastic week learning all about minibeasts. The children have loved exploring what different creepy crawlies they could find in the garden, and we had a trip to the allotment where they looked at minibeasts and tulips too!
In phonics this week we have been focusing on consolidating the sounds the children know, and trying to blend these sounds into words. Before Easter we sent home a list of phonics sounds that your children should focus on in their bookbag. It would be really helpful if you could practice these sounds with them at home so that they feel more secure with them. If you are unsure, or need a new sound sheet, then please let us know and we can sort this out for you.
In maths we have been looking at odd and even numbers, and capacity. The children really impressed us with their outstanding knowledge of odd and even numbers! We used numicon to help us see that some numbers are a perfect rectangle and some are not. This helped us identify the odd and even numbers. It has been a pleasure to welcome Miss Lowe into Kites, who is supporting us in the mornings at the beginning of the week. This week she has been helping the children understand capacity, looking at full, half full, and empty, as well as carrying out an experiment where the children explored how many cups filled up a larger container!
On Thursday we had an exercise filled PE lesson where we all took part in the Mini Marathon! It was fantastic to see all the children running laps of the field, challenging themselves to complete as many laps as possible. We were so impressed with the positivity and determination the children showed throughout this event! We hope that you have found their certificates which were in their bookbag so that you can celebrate this achievement with them too.
Next week on Monday we will have our class photos. Please make sure the children come to school in their Kites uniform, wearing either their Kites jumper or a school cardigan.
On Wednesday we will be celebrating Earth Day! To celebrate this for show and tell next week, we would love the children to have a go at making a model of the earth. This could be out of playdoh, junk modelling, clay, or maybe even cake! Please send in a photo of your child’s Earth creation to the office so that we are able to show it for show and tell.
