Dear Parents,
I can’t believe it’s the penultimate week of term 3! Where has the time gone? We have continued our magical learning this week, all about fairy tales. On Friday we wrote some fantastic stories about The 3 Gingerbread Men, based on the story of The 3 Little Pigs. The children came up with some very imaginative ideas and had some fantastic stories to write and share. We also designed our own front cover for the story too! Hopefully you will see some of them through the window.
In maths we have continued to explore number bonds looking at different ways to make 5, 10 and even 20! The children had lots of fun building numbers with different manipulatives on Friday.
On Tuesday we had a very special visit from the Dog’s Trust, helping us to learn all about how we look after pets. It was a good reminder following our visit from a vet the week before. We learnt lots, and some of the children enjoyed thinking about how to care for Mrs Salmons’ dog Rhubarb.
This week in phonics, the children have been continuing to focus on blending. They have been using their knowledge to write CVC words. We have also been doing some excellent writing all about Drizzle the Dragon. The children have been using their wow words to describe Drizzle, what he looks like, how he helps us, and how he feels? On Tuesday we went on an adventure. We heard that Drizzle was hiding! We were given clues which led us all the way to the library where Drizzle was hiding amongst the books with Mrs Legg! We had such a wonderful adventure, and the children have been fantastic at looking after Drizzle in the classroom
Speak Up!
This week we have continued our learning with Drizzle Dragon! He has helped us explore the emotion: angry. We have talked a lot about why we feel angry sometimes, and what makes us feel angry. We have also been thinking about the things we could do when we feel angry to help us feel calm again. The children were able to use their think-pair-share skills to discuss what they could do to help a friend feel calm. We have been practising some self-regulating techniques, including: 5-finger breathing, rainbow breathing, bubble breathing and balloon breathing.
Trips
On the 16th of March we will be going to the Earth Trust, and on the 22nd May we will be going to Bucklebury farm. I know this might seem like a long time in the future, but we will be looking for support on these trips closer to the time. If you think you might be interested in helping on one of these trips, please speak to us, or Mrs Honor in the office, so that we are able to get the necessary paperwork in place in order to enable you to support us on these trips.
TOP TIPS *Handwashing*
In March we will be taking part in STEM week, a week which is dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. In Kites our focus is going to be on hand washing. We will be doing lots of experiments to teach the children about hand hygiene. Here is a song you might like to share with your children about washing hands and how to wash them properly in preparation for our upcoming learning.
Thursday 12th February – School Disco
Friday 13th February – End of term
Have a lovely weekend,
