Dear Parents,
We have had a magical week in Kites this week. We have extended our learning about people who help us and started learning all about fairy tales. The children have continued to enjoy dressing up and taking on roles as doctors, vets, and nurses supporting their friends when they have injured themselves! They have even enjoyed performing operations on teddy bears. Thankfully, everyone has now fully recovered!
This week in phonics, the children have been focusing on blending. They have been using their knowledge to write CVC words. On a Friday, we do a Tales Toolkit session, where the children have the opportunity to create their own stories. We have been blown away this week by their amazing story ideas, and they have all made fantastic progress with understanding the basic components needed to make a story. Next week we will be writing our very own fairy tales using tales toolkit, if you would like to practice over the weekend, here is the outline for tales toolkit, but it can be drawn on any piece of paper!
In maths we have continued to represent numbers to 10, and some of the children have developed their knowledge of number bonds to 10 and 20. The children have enjoyed playing Top Marks games on the interactive whiteboard. This week we have played Teddy Numbers. Thank you so much to the children who spotted numbers and sent in photos for show and tell this week. This challenge will continue next week, so if you happen to spot any numbers out and about this weekend or on your way to school, then we would love to see a photo to be able to share in class.
Speak Up!
This week we have continued our learning with Drizzle Dragon! He has helped us explore the emotion: sadness. We have talked a lot about why we feel sad and what makes us feel sad. We have also been thinking about the things we could do when we feel sad to help us feel happy again. The children were able to use their think-pair-share skills to discuss what they could do to help a friend feel happy. Here is a video which you might like to share together about what you could do if you are feeling sad.
Trips
On the 16th of March we will be going to the Earth Trust, and on the 22nd May we will be going to Bucklebury farm. I know this might seem like a long time in the future, but we will be looking for support on these trips closer to the time. If you think you might be interested in helping on one of these trips, please speak to us, or Mrs Honor in the office, so that we are able to get the necessary paperwork in place in order to enable you to support us on these trips.
TOP TIPS *Handwashing*
In March we will be taking part in STEM week, a week which is dedicated to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. In Kites our focus is going to be on hand washing. We will be doing lots of experiments to teach the children about hand hygiene. Here is a song you might like to share with your children about washing hands and how to wash them properly in preparation for our upcoming learning.
