We have had a great first week back and have enjoyed learning about the environment and how we can help to look after it. Our scissors and glue have been working overtime as we have been so busy producing lots of exciting creations with our ‘junk’, trying to reuse and repurpose objects that would just been thrown away otherwise. If your child has enjoyed this, why not try one of the junk modelling activities (links at the bottom of this post). Your child could then bring it in for ‘Show and Tell’ and earn some team points!
We are going to continue with this topic next week and will expand it by thinking about animals and how we can take care of them.
Our classroom has become a little busier as we have been joined by ladybirds and grasshoppers and we have been enjoying observing them and seeing the changes that they are going through.
In Maths, we have been looking at money. We have looked at different coins and have been counting them and thinking about the purpose of money. The best was for children to get used to this is by handling actual money. Nowadays, coins aren’t used as much but, if possible, when paying for something, use coins and ask your child to help you. If that’s not possible, why not try some of these games to help them practise the skills.

On Thursday and Friday, the children could earn ‘coins’ by making good choices and following our school rules. The children then visited Mrs Conway’s bank and counted out the coins they had earned and visited the ‘SCPS Biscuit Shop’ where they could use their coins to buy a biscuit and items to decorate it with. This was a big success and would be easy to replicate at home on a rainy afternoon.
We hope that you have a wonderful weekend and thank you again for your ongoing support. If you are taking part, enjoy On Your Bike!
